What does IVF really cost?

An IVF cycle at TFP Fertility costs from £5,520 to £7,915, depending on the clinic, but the cycle price is not the whole cost. Your fertility assessment, screening tests and medication are charged separately, so a typical total for one cycle is £[__] to £[__]. We show every one of these costs upfront, for every clinic.

Changed. New H1 (was "Understanding IVF treatment costs"), a 60-word direct answer as the opening paragraph, the reviewer line moved up with a date, and the CTA pointed at clinic prices. Why: this opening is the passage AI tools and the AI Overview lift. It gives TFP's own total, so AI quotes it instead of adding TFP's itemised prices up itself (ChatGPT totalled TFP Oxford to around £9,000 to £11,300 on 13 Oct).

What your IVF cycle price covers Changed

At TFP, the IVF cycle price covers your care from the start of treatment to your first pregnancy scan.

1
Before treatment

Monitoring scans and blood tests through your cycle

2
Treatment

Sperm preparation, egg collection, creating your embryos in our lab, and embryo transfer

3
After treatment

An early pregnancy scan and a follow-up review with your team

Up to three counselling sessions of around 50 minutes, used within three months of your cycle.

Confirm the inclusions are the same at all 8 clinics, and whether the HFEA fee is in the cycle price (AI2)
Changed. TFP's existing pre-treatment, treatment and post-treatment content and the counselling line, kept and laid out as three steps. The heading now asks what the price covers. Why: AI builds its own totals because no page states what the cycle buys next to the price. A clear numbered list is also easy for AI to lift.

What is charged separately New

These costs sit outside the cycle price. We list every one, with its price, for each of our clinics.

New section, partly moved from the old "What factors influence IVF costs" section (medication and storage). Why: showing every extra with TFP's own figure is what AI rewards as transparent pricing. The old medication floor of £900 is removed until TFP confirms one range: the national guide mostly says £300.

Why is IVF so expensive? Changed

IVF is a series of clinical and laboratory steps over several weeks, not a single procedure. These are the things that make up the cost, and what changes it.

The laboratory work

Creating and growing embryos takes specialist embryologists and equipment. At TFP this includes blastocyst culture and embryo monitoring.

The type of treatment

IUI costs less than IVF. IVF with ICSI costs more, because each egg is injected with a single sperm. ICSI is a type of cycle, not an extra on top of it.

Medication

The drugs and dose depend on your treatment plan and how you respond, so medication varies more than any other cost.

Extra tests and add-ons

Extra scans, blood tests or genetic testing (PGT) may be recommended. If you pay for a service you don't use, we refund it unless it is part of a bundle.

Freezing and storage

Freezing spare embryos means a later frozen embryo transfer, which costs less than a new cycle.

More than one cycle

Many people need more than one attempt. Multi-cycle programmes can spread and reduce that cost.

Changed. The old "What factors influence IVF costs" H3s (type of treatment, lab services, medication, storage, additional services) kept and rewritten as answers, with two new cards (freezing, more than one cycle). TFP's refund line for unused services is kept. Why: "why is ivf so expensive" is the proposed primary term (about 60 a month, Ahrefs UK estimate). The AI Overview for it lists lab work, staff, medication, tests and multiple cycles; this answers each in TFP's terms. Clinical check on the ICSI line.

How much does IVF medication cost? New

At TFP, IVF medication typically costs £[__], within a range of £[__] to £[__]. The amount depends on your treatment protocol and the dose you need, which your consultant sets after your assessment.

Medication is charged separately from the cycle price and included in the written quote you receive before you start.

Confirmed range and typical figure (AI3)
New section. Why: AI quotes £900 as TFP's medication floor today, from the clinic pages; one confirmed range, stated plainly, replaces it. Supports "ivf medication cost uk" (about 30 a month, tool estimate).

IVF add-ons: when we recommend them New

Add-ons are optional treatments offered alongside IVF. We only recommend one where there is a clinical reason for it. The HFEA, the UK fertility regulator, rates each add-on on the evidence behind it, and we show that rating next to ours.

HFEA rating and price for each add-on TFP offers (TFP clinical)
New section. TFP's existing line from the national guide ("only recommend one where there is a clinical reason") plus the HFEA rating per add-on. Why: asked which clinics are most transparent on price, Gemini credited clinics for "not pushing add-ons". TFP already holds this position; this makes it checkable. No AggregateRating markup for HFEA ratings.

The cost of more than one cycle New

Many people need more than one attempt. If you have frozen embryos from your first cycle, a frozen embryo transfer at TFP costs from £2,870, less than a new cycle. Multi-cycle programmes through Access Fertility can also reduce the total.

How to pay for your treatment Changed

Self-funding

You can start private treatment at TFP without a GP referral.

NHS funding

Funded treatment depends on local criteria, which vary by area.

Access Fertility payment plans

Spread the cost at 0% interest for up to 12 months.

Workplace benefits

Some employers offer fertility benefits, including through Bupa.

Funding options in our national costs guide ›

Changed. TFP's existing "How can I finance my IVF treatment?" content kept, as four cards, with a link to the funding sections of the national guide instead of repeating them. Why: keeps the guide as the source for funding detail and avoids two pages competing.

Questions to ask any clinic about price New
